On Saturday, I sat down with some scrambled eggs and pesto (highly recommended combination, by the way) when I thought, this is the first day in a while where neither Bob nor I had anything to do. As much as I love spending time with both of our families and friends, which we’ve been doing much of lately (mostly for birthdays and events like that), I was delighted to not have any plans. I do count myself as fortunate to be able to have most of the people I love living within or close to New York. I’m so grateful for that, especially knowing that many of the people living here have family and friends elsewhere, often very far. I certainly know what I have, but I still couldn’t help but feel so relieved to know that this day was going to be all our own. We had a low-key, relaxing afternoon right in our own neighborhood. Sandwiches, beer, light errands and a long walk in the park before the rain rolled in. It was exactly what I wanted.

Toasty sandwiches and cold brews at the newly-opened Astoria Bier & Cheese in Ditmars. I can’t wait to come back and sample the cheese plates…and more beer, of course.

Followed by a quick grocery shop (not pictured obviously) and Mister Softee ice cream in the park. It’s the only soft-serve I actually enjoy. Rich, custardy goodness covered in every inch with chocolate sprinkles—I love it.

This guy was killin’ it on his rollerblades. I only wish I could’ve caught him on camera doing his dancey tricks.

bobI love that we’re able to spend more time outdoors now. After feeling a little cooped up for the past few months, it’s great to feel the sun on my skin again. Spring, I really really do appreciate you (even when I’m not-so-quietly longing for summer). Stay a while this time, will ya? You make these fun and casual outings that much better.
